You’ll spend the first few days of your trip on the pristine white sand beach of your elegant and tranquil hotel in Punta Cana – it’s not called Playa Blanca (“white beach”) for nothing. A walk along the Caribbean dream beach, swimming in the turquoise blue Caribbean Sea or a massage in the Six Senses Spa are optimal for a relaxing day under the palm trees. During your stay, a total of four green fees are included at the prestigious Corales and La Cana golf courses.

Today you will visit a cigar factory in La Romana, one of the world’s largest handmade cigar operations, which offers visitors a good insight into the manufacturing steps of Dominican premium cigars. You will learn interesting facts about the entire tobacco processing and you can also roll a cigar yourself. Another stop is at the Barceló rum factory, which is one of the country’s market-leading rum producers. Here you can take a look behind the scenes of rum production. The museum thematizes the history of rum production in the country and provides an insight into the cultural significance of this drink. Finally, there is a tasting of Barceló’s different rums in the beautiful bar. Afterwards, you will continue to the historic center of Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. In the evening, you will have plenty of time to explore the romantic Zona Colonial with its alleys and countless bars and restaurants.

Day 9: History and culinary in Santo Domingo

Day 9: History and culinary in Santo Domingo

After breakfast, you’ll embark on a private and English-guided exploration tour of the Zona Colonial, where you’ll get to know the first European city in the Americas a little better. Among other things, you will visit the palace of Columbus’ first son and the oldest cathedral in the New World. You will visit a chocolate museum where you will learn a lot about the cacao plant and its uses and make your own chocolate bar. In the afternoon, you will go on a tour of an interactive sugar cane museum with a guided tour of the modern museum with live actors performing and narrating the history of rum in the Dominican Republic. After the “from sugar cane to rum” tour, there will be an opportunity to sample different rums.

Day 10: Santiago & Tobacco Plantation

The journey takes you further inland, past cocoa, rice, banana and coffee plantations and soon you will see towering mountains. Your way will take you through Santiago, the second largest city in the country. Here you will visit one of the best restaurants in the Santiago area, from where you will have a fantastic view of the city. Afterwards, the journey continues north where you will visit a tobacco plantation and learn more on site about the cultivation and processing of tobacco to the production of fine cigars. In the evening, you will arrive at your hotel in Puerto Plata.

Today you will head to the 18-hole golf course “Playa Dorada” in Puerto Plata for a round of golf. Listed as one of the 100 best in the world by the prestigious Golf Digest magazine, this course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. amidst the lush tropical vegetation of the Playa Dorada Resort. The first-class 18-hole championship golf course, par 72, stretches some 7,000 yards in irregular but very varied terrain where water and bunkers play an important role. The remainder of the day is at your leisure.

Day 12: Puerto Plata

Day 12: Puerto Plata

You can spend today relaxing at the beautiful Hotel Casa Colonial, which is located right on the beach and offers an infinity pool, four Jacuzzis, a fitness center, and an orchid garden. If you want to experience more, you can take the cable car to the “Pico Isabel de Torres”, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the north coast. The Amber Museum of Puerto Plata can also be easily reached by cab. The neoclassical-style building displays some of the Dominican Republic’s most stunning amber, including specimens containing animal fossils, on several floors.
