Test your limits and climb up to the Pico Duarte with its 10,164 feet, a unique peak thanks to its altitude and location. The closest peak higher than the Pico Duarte is approx. 600 miles away – in Columbia. During the 2 to 4 day tour we provide you with everything you need for the trek: full equipment, guide, mules and a surprise or two on your way up. After a successful climb to the top, all your participants can look forward to a dip into the ocean as the famous beaches of the Dominican Republic are not far away. Once back at the base-camp it’s just a two hour drive to Cabarete, Puerto Plata or Punta Rucia.

Santo Domingo, the capital, was founded just a few years later. We will show you the first cathedral of the new world, the Columbus Square and the “Casa de Colon” (House of Columbus). If you would like to discover more about Dominican history than just the Columbus era, we will have a peek into the more recent past. Trujillo, Bosch & Balaguer were the three most important politicians in the Dominican Republic in the past 100 years. San Cristobal, the Trujillos former residence, and the Fortaleza Ozama, which was used as prison (of torture) in the era of Trujillo are two of the sites we will show you for a better understanding of the recent history of the Dominican Republic. But also, Bosch and Balaguer are omnipresent in nearly every town, as each has a square, bus station or street named after them, and the monument Faro Colon is one of the results of Balaguer’s presidency.

Rum and cigars are two of the most popular export goods of the Dominican Republic. “Back to our roots” is the theme while we show you how rum and cigars are made in this country. First we guide you to San Pedro de Macoris where we visit the distillery of Barceló. Along with Brugal, they are the most famous rum brands in the Dominican Republic. Following the tour and explanation, you can enjoy the different kinds of rum at a typical Dominican shack called a “Colmado”. Challenge your taste buds, watch a domino game, and mingle with the locals. For those interested in tobacco there is a small cigar manufacturer in Santo Domingo where you can try different examples and brands of cigars, and take some home as well. The Dominicans are an extremely friendly people, which is reflected in their enormous hospitality. You will see the majority of locals just happily smiling at you. One of the reasons is their music, which is a kind of elixir for most Dominicans. Even the shortest sequence of music makes local people start to move rhythmically to the sounds of Salsa, Merengue and Bachata, the three most important kinds of music in the Dominican Republic.
