This trip is recommended for active adventurers who have little tolerance for inactivity in their vacation. .

Day 1: Punta Cana

Arrive at Punta Cana’s airport where you will pick up your rental car which has been reserved for you by DOMINICAN EXPERT. From the airport you will drive to your hotel Dreams Royal Beach and enjoy your first day in the Dominican Republic at one of the most famous and most visited tourist spots in the country.

Day 2: Punta Cana – Santo Domingo

Depart from your hotel to Higuey where you can visit the Basílica “Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia”, a Roman Catholic Cathedral. After lunch the journey continues to Santo Domingo the capital of the Dominican Republic. Your hotel is located in the heart of the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo. Enjoy the evening exploring the Colonial town with its multiple bars, restaurants and souvenir shopping opportunities.

Day 3: Santo Domingo – Paraíso

During a two-hour guided walking tour through the “Zona Colonial”, you will follow the footsteps of Columbus and visit (among other things) the oldest cathedral in the New World, castles, ruins and the residence of Columbus’s son, Don Diego. After the tour you will depart to Paraíso, a small town in the southwest of the country.
Popular tourism has not yet reached this region of the island with its rugged landscapes, pristine beaches and native Dominican flair.

Day 4: Bahía de las Águilas (Eagle Bay)

On this day you will have time to explore the southwest region of the Dominican Republic. One possibilty is to drive to “La Cueva”, where you find a beach of white sand and an inviting restaurant where you can lunch with a marvelous view of the Caribbean Sea. From here you can continue to the beach “Bahia de las Águilas” (Eagle Bay), a true paradise with white sand and turquoise water. This beach is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and well worth the trip. To get there, you can chose to take a boat from the restaurant at “La Cueva” or simply walk (approximately 1 hour) while admiring rock formations, native cactus and the beauty of the landscape.
On the road back, you will have the opportunity to swim at “Los Patos” where a fresh water spring entwines with the sea. In the evening you can enjoy a delicious dinner at your accommodation or at one of the nearby restaurants.

Day 5: Paraíso – Jarabacoa

After breakfast your roundtrip continues and you will first drive into the heartland of the country, passing cocoa, rice, banana, and coffee plantations. On a well-developed mountain road you reach the Rancho Baiguate in Jarabacoa, the “city of eternal spring” snuggled at the base of the mountains surrounded by majestic beauty. The rest of the day is at your free disposal where you have time to explore the area of Jarabacoa or relax on the premises of the Rnacho Baiguate. In the evening a typical Dominican dinner is waiting for you.

Note
There are two different ways to drive from Paraíso to Jarabacoa. The first option would be the route marked in the map above via the well-paved highways. Nevertheless, we would highly recommend you the road going through the National Park Valle Nueva (via Constanza). You will drive along an impressive landscape, through mountainous areas up to 2500m (the highest road of the Caribbean) with breathtaking sceneries and on rough and rocky paths passing by unique nature. However, please note that it will be necessary to rent a SUV for this route. If you would like to take this opportunity please let us know so that we can quote the itinerary with an SUV for you (approx. 60 USD additional per day).

Day 6: Jarabacoa – Sosúa

After breakfast, you can choose from the following four activities:

• Canyoning in the “Río Baiguate”
River rafting on the river “Río Yaque del Norte”
• Horseback ride or mountain bike to the Baiguate Waterfalls.

In the afternoon the journey continues to the popular tourist town of Sosúa. The small luxurious boutique hotel Casa 22 is welcoming you with a cocktail in a relaxed atmosphere. In the evening you can have dinner by the pool at your hotel or go out and enjoy the busy nightlife of Sosúa.

Day 7: Sosúa – Las Terrenas

After breakfast you will head towards Las Terrenas located on the Samaná peninsula. Las Terrenas is a tranquil fishing town, known for its wonderful beaches and its numerous shops, restaurants and bars. During the drive you will pass unspoiled natural landscapes, cross numerous rivers, see many rice fields and eventually drive along the rugged north coast. In the afternoon you will check in your hotel which is located right on the beach “Playa Bonita”.

Day 8: Las Terrenas – Boca Chica

This morning you will either drive to Santa Barbara de Samaná or to the waterfall “El Limón”. In Santa Barbara de Samaná you have the chance, during the mating season from the beginning of January until mid-March, to see humpback whales splash in the warm water of the Samaná bay. You will go on a boat excursion to see these giant marine mammals in their natural environment.
If not travelling whale season or upon request, we offer a horseback ride to the spectacular waterfall “El Limón”. This excursion starts right behind the small town of El Limón. The waterfall is 50 meters (164 feet) high and therefore the highest one on the Samaná peninsula. After visiting the waterfall you will enjoy a hearty Dominican lunch in a nearby ranch.
In the afternoon you will head south to Boca Chica. Here you will stay in a beach front hotel, located at one of the most beautiful lagoons of the Caribbean. The crystal clear and often only chest high water offers an exceptionally fun swimming experience.

Day 9: Boca Chica – Bayahibe

After breakfast the journey continues along the southern coast towards Bayahibe. Along the way you can visit the cave “La Cueva de las Maravillas” (Cave of Wonders), an 800 meters (2625 feet) stalactite cave decorated with hundreds of Taino cave paitings.
In the afternoon zou will arrive in Bayahibe, a tranquil village known for its wonderful white beaches. Here you will stay the last three nights of your trip in the Cadaques Bayahibe****, a hotel with an unique atmosphere in a truly tranquil and paradisiacal location.

Day 10 to 12: Bayahibe (3 nights)

Enjoy your last few days on a beautiful Caribbean beach. This part of the trip serves as a rest and recovery period from an unforgettable experience. DOMINICAN EXPERT recommends that you take one of these days and book an excursion to Isla Saona, a pristine barrier island nearby. You can sail there by Catamaran and return by speedboat; food, drinks and entertainment included.

Day 12: Bayahibe – Punta Cana

On the last day you will drive to the airport of Punta Cana. At the airport you will be met by a representative of DOMINICAN EXPERT to help faciliate the return of your rental car and see you off safely on return journey.

Driving time: 1 hour

(Pick up after your arrival at Punta Cana Airport; drop off day 12 (same time as pick up) at the airport in Punta Cana)
– All overnight accommodations at hotels mentioned in the program

– Private Guided Walking Tour (approx. 2 hours) through the Zona Colonial in Santo Domingo
