This short trip is specially designed for nature lovers who want to experience the animal and natural diversity of the Dominican Republic up close and far away from any civilization. Travel back in time and spend two nights in the National Park "Los Haitises", where over 4000 years ago the indigenous people of the island used to live in the caves there. During mating season from mid-January to mid-March, you will be able to witness the impressive humpback whales and see many bird species (some of them endemic) during an early morning bird watching tour.

Day 1: Los Haitises National Park

In the morning you will be picked up and taken to the unparalleled nature of Los Haitises National Park. Your accommodation is a beautiful eco-lodge, which is located in the middle of Los Haitises National Park, away from any civilization. Once here, you can explore the surroundings on a walk through the jungle or enjoy the evening relaxing in the natural pools that surround the hotel.

Day 2: Bird watching and Caño Salado

At 5:30 am, before sunrise, you will go on an observation tour of “El Gavilán de la Hispaniola”, a native and endangered bird species that is endemic here in the National Park. During the tour, as you search for El Gavilán and other bird species that call Los Haitises National Park home, you can watch the sun rise over the trees. Later in the day, you will take a 3–4-hour hike through the national park, exploring nature and getting exciting photo opportunities along the way. Alternatively, you can take a kayak tour or any of the other activities offered (upon request).

Day 3: Los Haitises & Cayo Levantado

After breakfast, you will collect your luggage and take a private boat trip through the mangroves to the large lagoon “Bay of San Lorenzo”. This lagoon is simply breathtaking and unique in its natural splendor. Move slowly through the shallow waters and observe how the rocky islands have been formed over the centuries, while providing a place where countless species of birds can be seen. From here, the boat will take you through Samaná Bay to Cayo Levantado, where you can enjoy a Dominican lunch and have time to relax on the pristine beach of Cayo Levantado, also called “Bacardi Island.” Finally, in the afternoon, the captain will take you directly to the port of the Bannister Hotel.

Day 4: Activity of your choice

Day 4: Activity of your choice

Today, embark on a boat excursion that will give you the opportunity to observe the fascinating humpback whales, the giants of the seas, in Samaná Bay (available January through March). Alternatively, you can take a guided hike through the jungle to a hidden waterfall, a 7-beach hike, or an exciting zip line tour. In the afternoon, your private chauffeur will pick you up and take you to the picturesque colonial zone of Santo Domingo.

Day 5: Santo Domingo

You will start the day with the, in our opinion, best breakfast in Santo Domingo. You can explore the city on your own, the day is at your disposal until your departure. You will receive some helpful insider tips and recommendations from us so that you can organize your time in Santo Domingo according to your liking. One option would be to visit the botanical garden or the fascinating cave system “Los Tres Ojos”. Depending on the itinerary, transfer to the airport or to your connecting hotel. (Transfer not included; upon request).
