Are you planning a family vacation and looking for a holiday home in the Dominican Republic, but unsure how to best conduct your search? Do you want to spend a few exciting days under the sun with your friends in a luxury villa in the Caribbean, but aren't sure whether Punta Cana, Samaná, or another region is the best fit for your group? There are a few things to consider when choosing the perfect villa for your Dominican Republic vacation. We at Dominican Expert We work with a wide variety of villas every day, and it's our passion to find the perfect one for every client. Here are our 7 tips on how to find the best villa for your vacation in the Dominican Republic:
1. The right position
First, talk to your friends or family and find out what you expect from your villa or vacation home in the Dominican Republic. Do you want a luxury villa right on the beach? Or perhaps a more affordable option a few steps from the sea, but still within easy walking distance? If you're dreaming of a villa with an ocean view, a hilltop property would be your best bet. Or are you simply looking for a Caribbean vacation home that fits any budget, making the villa's location less important? All these types of villas exist in the Dominican Republic; the options are endless.
2. The best region
Many visitors focus solely on Punta Cana, but the Dominican Republic has so much more to offer. Undoubtedly, Punta Cana is a wonderful option, boasting numerous, seemingly endless beaches, excellent infrastructure, and the best flight connections. If you want to depart from Germany in the morning and soak up the sun by the afternoon, a villa in Punta Cana is the perfect choice. However, there are many other options to consider.
Samaná is known as the most beautiful region of the Dominican Republic and also offers a wide selection of vacation homes, luxurious Caribbean villas right on the beach, and chic and modern beachfront accommodations. Villas in Samaná are generally about 30 to 50% cheaper than those in Punta Cana. So, if you have a budget, you should definitely consider this region.
The north coast of the Dominican Republic should also be considered when choosing the perfect villa for your vacation. The area around Cabrera, in particular, offers some majestic villas.
If you are looking for a VIP villa with plenty of privacy and exclusive luxury, then Casa de Campo, with its various golf courses and many villas owned by celebrities, is your perfect choice.
3. The perfect service
Villas in the Dominican Republic vary considerably in terms of service and staff. While the more affordable villas, especially in Samaná, typically offer only a maid for a few days a week, along with a night watchman and a gardener, the most luxurious villas employ up to 35 staff members. Here, luxury and the ultimate pampering experience are guaranteed – 24 hours a day.
4. Choose the right menu plan for your needs (and your budget!)
When it comes to dining, the options are just as extensive as the villas' amenities. Self-catering is standard practice in all villas, but a private chef (with an assistant, if needed) is almost always available for an additional fee. In some villas, the private chef is included in the rental price, and the most luxurious properties offer a full kitchen team and a set menu, guaranteeing an exceptional culinary experience with every meal. For all villas in Samaná, you also have the option of booking a catering package with a private chef and completely customized menus from our catering service.
5. The right number of bedrooms
Determining the right number of bedrooms is quite simple. Take the number of beds you need – this is the number of bedrooms you'll require, as most villas in the Dominican Republic are equipped with king-size beds. If you're traveling with friends and would like to share bedrooms but not beds, ask your DOMINICAN EXPERT travel consultant, as some vacation villas in the Dominican Republic offer twin beds.
6. Do you know your budget?
Perhaps the most important aspect of your search for the perfect villa in the Dominican Republic, especially if you're looking for a Caribbean beach villa for you and your friends, is your budget. Prices for rental villas can start as low as €30 per person per night, particularly away from the popular tourist areas. However, if the villa includes a menu and numerous staff, the price can easily exceed €400 per person per night. Determine your budget and let your travel advisor know.
7. Optional: Planning an event or a wedding
Are you looking for the perfect villa for your Caribbean wedding or family reunion? If so, you shouldn't overlook any rules and regulations the villa may have regarding events and weddings. Depending on the size of your group, some villas don't allow weddings or events at all, while others have restrictions on the number of people and the type of event. Villas also charge event fees, which can vary depending on the length of your stay. It's best to ask your wedding planner or experienced travel consultant about the villa's specific policies.
